As the 2021 NFL preseason is now over, we are now days away from kickoff. Some teams even with backups have stood out, while others have fallen. The same thing can be said when it comes to NFL teams this past free agency and the NFL draft as well.
Who wins the AFC West this year? Read below to find out!
AFC West
Kansas City Chiefs
When it comes to the Chiefs, it is a no brainer of why they’re the favorites to come out on top of the AFC due to the success they have had so far in the Patrick Mahomes era.
With their high power offense and emerging defense, it’s foolish to wonder why they’re the favorites to win the AFC West division. High caliber players on their team such as Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, S Tyrann Mathieu, Chris Jones, and many more there are questions flying around who can stop of team with a high caliber QB like Mahomes who’ surrounded by so much talent.
Leading last season in both passing and total yards produced in 2020, along with picking up pro bowl offensive linemen Orlando Brown Jr. via trade from the Baltimore Ravens, it’s no question why they’re the favorites to win the AFC West and the AFC again.
Looking at their schedule, I do not see them losing more than three games this season.
Projected Record: 14-3
Denver Broncos
Even with good to great caliber players on both their offense and defense, the Broncos this year won’t be good enough to make the playoffs due to how weak they still look compared to opposing teams in the AFC.
Being on the road against teams such as the Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On top of that they have to play both the Ravens, Chiefs, Raiders, and the Eagles all at home, I don’t see them coming out with wins in any of these games.
With that being said, the Broncos will lose at least 9-10 games this season.
Projected Record: 7-10
Los Angeles Chargers
Even though they chargers are coming into this season with rising stars such as QB Justin Herbert, Kennan Allen, Derwin James, Joey Bosa, that still won’t be enough to compete in the AFC conference.
Along with that, losing a star tight in the name of Hunter Henry (signed in NE) this offseason, the Chargers will struggle in the red zone a lot this years due to Henry being their “red zone guy” when he was there.
Playing teams such as Kansas City Chiefs (2x), Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders (2x), and the Baltimore Ravens, it’s real strong possibility that they will lose all of these games vs, the teams mentioned.
Each of these teams are coming with good to great offenses or good to great defense or all the above. With that being said, the Chargers will not reach .500 this season due to losing more this offseason than they gained.
Projected Record: 8-9
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders to me are not expected to make a jump this year due to the lack of progressed from last years, heading into this year. Raiders are not projected to win many games this years due to how much everyone else in the division and in the AFC conference have progressed around them.
Starting this season off playing the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Chicago Bears, I see them starting this year off 1-3 due to the strong possibility of losing to Pittsburgh, Miami, and Baltimore the first three of games of the season. Playing the Chiefs this season (2x), along with the Colts, they are projected to lose at least seven games this years and miss the playoffs.
Projected Record: 9-8
