Troy Aumua Polamalu is without question is one of the best safeties to ever step foot in National Football League, along with one of the greatest athletes to ever exist in sports. Some of people will debate that he’s the greatest athlete and safety to ever live. Throughout his twelve years of playing in the NFL, he’s been one the most impactful and iconic players to ever lace a pair of cleats from both a personal and professional standpoint, but what is the other side to the sport icon that the people does not know?
If you watch grew up watching the Pittsburgh Steelers like many did in the early 2000’s and the mid 2010’s, than you should be aware of who Troy Polamalu is and should know of him as what many have called him the “Flying Hawaiian” or the “Playmaker”. He has made many of our childhoods awesome and made us want to watch Steelers games even more just to see what iconic play he is going to make next that will forever be in our memories and rest in our hearts.
He encouraged many young athletes around the world who have inspired to play football to want to become another one of him or even better.
Now it’s time to introduce to you to the side of Polamalu that many football fans does not know of.
Troy & Theodora Polamalu Foundation
Polamalu and his wife Theodora have done some work behind the scenes outside of his football career. Starting with the Troy and Theodora Polamalu Foundation, which is a charity foundation that was created in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 31, 2007. The purpose of this foundation’s creation is for the Polamalu family to share their fortune and heritages with the community.
The foundation also provides assistance to those within Pittsburgh community who are less fortune and bring awareness to it, which allows those of the unfortunate to gain better assistance of help needed.
With the foundation being it Pittsburgh, not only was Polamalu provided with any means to share his heritage with the Pittsburgh community, but it also raised money for his Bi-Annual Fa’a American Samoa Camp and have increased to include a dinner series, online auctions, galas, golf tournaments, and community events in various cities throughout the US.
The foundation have been around for nearly 15 years and have made a huge splash within the both the Polynesian community and Pittsburgh community with it’s ties with programs such as Focus North America, FA’A Samoa, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, America Samoa, Polamalu English, WPIX News, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, and Steelers.com.
It has also have drawn attention from companies such as Heads & Shoulders, StarKist, and The Robert & Cindy Citrone Foundation.
Polamalu will forever be in the hearts of many sport fans across the world and will always be memorized as one of the best athletes to ever step into the sports industry. From his awesome locks of good hair to his elite and iconic playing on the football field to his charitable work outside the football field.
