Unfortunately for many Steeler fans, they had to say goodbye to what was an incredible and yet unforgettable era within the name of Big Ben Roethlisberger in January when the future Hall of Fame quarterback officially called it quits and announced his retirement via Twitter from the NFL.
While Roethlisberger will sure be missed by many, especially by those in Pittsburgh, it’s on paper that a possible new era in the “Steel City” is coming sooner rather than later within the name of Kenny Pickett, who the Steelers have drafted in the first round in this past draft with the 20th overall pick.
When asked about being drafted by the team, Pickett stated “It’s a real dream come true “. It’s clear as day that he is more than excited and satisfied to be what many will call the succession plan within life after Roethlisberger.
The team is nearly more together than others think with weapons surrounding Pickett in the names of running back Najee Harris, wide receivers Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and new kid George Pickens, whom the team drafted in the 2nd round of this year’s NFL Draft. Along with that, the tight-end position isn’t something that you should sleep on due to the potential of stardom it has within the names of 2nd year veteran Pat Friermuth and Zach Gentry.
Of course, we cannot forget about the defense that has gotten younger but possibly stronger within the names of safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, AP Defensive Player of the Year T.J Watt, Cameron Heyward, Terrell Edmunds, Alex Highsmith, the returning of nose tackle Tyson Alualu, LB Devin Bush, along with the additions of CB Levi Wallace and LB Myles Jack, whom the team acquired this past free agency.
This team sure has added nothing but more talent around this young guy to
Pickett also stated the day that he landed back in Pittsburgh the day after he was drafted that he would “Win this team a Super Bowl. ” Will Kenny Pickett be the guy that the Steelers felt they took as a wise pick with the 20th overall pick or will he be what others consider a “bust”?
